The Finals of The 4th ORC Tournament ended in December 19, 2003. Just as the previous tournaments, this final was very tough for the players. All the finalists were very strong, and nobody could get a clear lead. Unlike last time, the winner had to give up 3.5 points, whereas last time two players got maximum points. This speaks about the fairer system that we are using today. There is no element of luck or easier oponents. Now that every participant of the tournament meets everyone, the really best player is chosen in most fair way.

Beerman surprised everybody by his confident play among the 20 best players. He won so many important games and lost only one game during the whole tournament! This is such an amazing record for a round robin system tournament. Great admiration and congratulation to Beerman!! The second place was taken by Intotherenju who has done remarkable career in renjuclass! With just one year of membership he has earned so many credit points! So, he is hardworking and strong renju player. Jahre, having stayed in Renjuclass over 3 years, has shown what experience means! His 3rd place was well-deserved! killer21st was very close to the top three places, and had to accept the 4th place because of weaker coefficient. luwenzhe's 5th place speaks for itself - the great man of Renjuclass, who is doing so many things at the same time, helping the class, teaching, managing, and building systems for renjuclass, and even participating in e-mail WC at the same time - he still manages to get the 5th place on the way. Amazing!! Only truly experienced person could do it. There was a big fight over the top 10 seats in this tournament, since the places 1-10 ensure the direct seats in the next final. Experienced players bawangwan, linas2, yyfcsd, guminzhao and lingdodo fought their way to the top 10, too.

For everybody's surprise, there were four quitters too, despite the high reputation of the tournament. They were dvoeglaz, serdyuk, bentley and reigo. It is hard to understand quitting in such a short-timed tournament (only 80 days), because they all signed up voluntarily before the tournament and were fully aware of their schedules and plans in following 80 days. Furthermore, there were no announcements or explanations for quitting whatsoever. They signed up and later quitted, not giving the chance to other seriously interested reserve players to sign up instead. To encourage players to be sporting and respectful to others, we decided not to let the quitters into the next tournament that is Spring QT for RCT-5.

My biggest thanks to luwenzhe, who did everything for this tournament - being the table manager, organiser, filing the games into library file, guessing competition manager!! He is always the greatest helper and without him, nothing would be as great as they are today! I also thank farmer, for hosting the tournament in his server and big thanks to all the players for making such a nice tournament!!

For his great efforts and help in the Finals, luwenzhe is awarded with 5cp! Big thanks to him!

killer21st amazed everyone in his precise predicion about top 10 places - he guessed 9 players correctly out of 10!! And maybe he would have even gotten 10 out of 10, if the only missed name "dvoeglaz" has not quitted. So, next year, everybody watch out about how killer21st places his bets, and follow him! :)
The good guesses brought killer21st 1cp. Congratulations!

Who will write an article about the tournament this time? Any volunteers? Please let us know if you are willing to do it. Biggest congratulations to Beerman, Intotherenju and jahrefor the excellent result in the Finals! I hope to see you all in the finals next year!
